Where you can top up MTN

MTN top up is available for numbers in Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast and Cameroon. Each country has its own plans and receive currency: NGN in Nigeria, GHS in Ghana, XOF in Ivory Coast and XAF in Cameroon. Plans differ by country and appear once the number is entered. Slashtel does not compare prices between countries.

Nigeria has 13 plans on Slashtel, Ghana has 13, Ivory Coast has 13 and Cameroon has 8. The receive currency is set by the country, so a top up to Nigeria lands in NGN, one to Ghana in GHS, one to Ivory Coast in XOF and one to Cameroon in XAF.

Because plans are local, the list you see depends on the number you enter. A number starting with 234 shows Nigeria plans, 233 shows Ghana plans, 225 shows Ivory Coast plans and 237 shows Cameroon plans.

How to send a MTN top-up from abroad

Sending a MTN international top up takes a few steps and works from any country. You do not need an account with MTN and you do not need to be in the same country as the phone. The top up is paid online and delivered to the number in minutes.

1. Go to the Slashtel MTN top up page.
2. Enter the MTN number you want to top up, including the country code.
3. Check that the detected operator and country are correct.
4. Choose a plan from the list shown for that number.
5. Pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.
6. Wait for the confirmation that the top up has been delivered.

The operator is detected from the number, so you do not pick MTN by hand. If the number is not recognised as MTN, no plans will appear.

Delivery is usually in minutes. Keep the page or your confirmation open until it shows as delivered.

What arrives on the phone in each country

What arrives depends on the country of the number. In Nigeria the top up lands in NGN, in Ghana in GHS, in Ivory Coast in XOF and in Cameroon in XAF. The amount shown at checkout is the amount that lands after the operator's tax, so the phone receives what you paid for.

Plans are set per country. Nigeria, Ghana and Ivory Coast each have 13 plans on Slashtel, while Cameroon has 8. The plan you choose decides what is added to the prepaid line, such as credit or a bundle.

If a plan is taxed by the operator, the figure shown is the net amount that reaches the phone. There is no separate tax to add at checkout.

Entering the number correctly

The number must include the country code so the operator can be detected. Nigeria uses 234, Ghana uses 233, Ivory Coast uses 225 and Cameroon uses 237. Enter the number without a leading zero after the country code, and check the detected operator before paying.

For example, a Nigerian number is entered as 234 followed by the local number without the first zero. The same pattern applies to 233, 225 and 237.

If the detected country or operator looks wrong, correct the number before you pay. A wrong number means the top up goes to the wrong line and cannot be reversed.

If a top-up does not go through

Most top ups are delivered in minutes. If yours does not arrive, first check the confirmation for the number and plan. A wrong number is the most common cause. If the number is correct and the top up still has not arrived, contact Slashtel support with the order details.

Check that the number includes the right country code and that the phone is an active MTN prepaid line. Top ups are for prepaid numbers.

If the plan was delivered but the balance does not show, ask the phone user to restart the device. If the problem continues, support can check the order status.
