Is My Phone eSIM Compatible? Check in 30 Seconds
Last checked: August 2026
You landed here because you are about to buy an eSIM and you are not sure your phone will take it. Fair enough. A 30-second check settles it.
The 30-second check: dial *#06#
Open your phone's keypad and dial *#06#. This is a universal code that works on every phone, regardless of brand or operating system.
If your phone has an eSIM chip, the screen shows a 32-digit number labelled EID (Embedded Identity Document). That is your confirmation. No EID means no eSIM hardware, and no software update will change that.
If the code does not respond, try the alternative path: Settings > About Phone > Status on Android, or Settings > General > About on iPhone. Look for an EID entry there.
That is the whole check. If you see EID, your phone is eSIM compatible. You can stop reading and go buy a plan. If you want the full list by brand, keep going.
Full list by brand
iPhone
All iPhone models from XS and newer support eSIM. That includes:
- iPhone XS, XS Max, XR
- iPhone 11 series
- iPhone 12 series
- iPhone 13 series
- iPhone 14 series (US models are eSIM-only)
- iPhone 15 series
- iPhone 16 series
India-market exception: iPhones sold in mainland China and Hong Kong use dual physical SIM trays instead of eSIM. If you bought your iPhone in those markets, dial *#06# to confirm. Some Chinese-market models also have regional software restrictions on eSIM.
Samsung
Samsung's eSIM support starts with the Galaxy S20 series (February 2020) and covers:
- Galaxy S20, S21, S22, S23, S24 and newer
- Galaxy Note 20 and newer
- Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip series
- Galaxy A54 and newer A-series models
India-market exception: Some A-series variants sold in India lack the eSIM chip. The A54 sold in India does support eSIM, but earlier models and some regional variants do not. The S-series flagships sold in India all support eSIM. Dial *#06# to be certain.
Google Pixel
Every Pixel from the Pixel 3 onwards supports eSIM:
- Pixel 3, 3a, 3a XL
- Pixel 4, 4a, 4a 5G
- Pixel 5, 5a
- Pixel 6, 6a, 6 Pro
- Pixel 7, 7a, 7 Pro
- Pixel 8, 8a, 8 Pro
- Pixel 9 series
No India-market exceptions. All Pixel models sold worldwide have the eSIM chip.
OnePlus
OnePlus support is patchy. Confirmed models:
- OnePlus 11 and newer
- OnePlus 12 and newer
- OnePlus Nord 3 and newer
- OnePlus Open
Earlier models like the OnePlus 9 and 10 have eSIM in some regions but not others. The OnePlus 9 Pro sold in India does not support eSIM. Dial *#06# before buying.
Xiaomi
Xiaomi support is limited and region-dependent. Confirmed models:
- Xiaomi 13 and newer
- Xiaomi 14 and newer
- Xiaomi 12T Pro (selected regions)
- Redmi Note 13 Pro+ (selected regions)
Most Redmi and POCO models do not support eSIM. If you have a Xiaomi, the *#06# check is essential.
Motorola
Motorola supports eSIM on:
- Motorola Razr and Razr+ series
- Motorola Edge 40 and newer
- Motorola Edge 50 series
- Motorola ThinkPhone
Budget Moto G series models generally lack eSIM. Check with the dial code.
Carrier-lock check
Your phone can have the hardware but still refuse a new eSIM if it is carrier-locked. This is common with phones bought on contract from a major UK network.
On iPhone: Go to Settings > General > About. Look for the 'Carrier Lock' section. If it says 'No SIM restrictions', you are free to add an eSIM. If it names a carrier, your phone is locked.
On Android: The path varies by brand. Try Settings > Connections > SIM Card Manager (Samsung) or Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs (Pixel). Look for a 'Carrier lock' or 'Network lock' entry. If you cannot find it, contact your carrier directly.
If your phone is locked, you can still buy a Slashtel eSIM but you will not be able to install it until the lock is removed. Get that sorted with your carrier first.
What happens if you buy and it doesn't work
We price plans on the assumption that you checked compatibility first. But mistakes happen.
- Unused eSIM: If you have not installed it, you get a full refund on request. Email esim@slashtel.com and it is sorted quickly.
- Installed eSIM: If you installed it and it fails to connect, contact us. We will troubleshoot and, if the plan is genuinely faulty, replace it.
- Installed eSIM that works: That is final sale. The data is consumed from the moment of first connection.
The refund policy is straightforward: unused eSIMs are refunded, installed ones are not. That is the whole thing.
Still not sure?
If the *#06# check gave you an EID, you are good. Buy the plan, install the QR code before you travel, and data starts when you land.
If you did not get an EID, your phone does not support eSIM. You have two options: buy a physical SIM at the destination, or upgrade your phone. We cannot help with either, but at least you know now, before spending money.
For everything else, our help page covers installation, compatibility and refunds. And when you are ready, browse all destinations to find a plan that fits.
Last checked: August 2026. Phone models change constantly. If your phone was released after this date, dial *#06# — it is the only check that never goes stale.
Questions, answered
How do I check if my phone is eSIM compatible?
Dial *#06# on your keypad. If you see an EID number on screen, your phone has an eSIM chip. No EID means no eSIM support. This works on all phones, regardless of brand or operating system.
What is an EID number?
EID stands for Embedded Identity Document. It is a unique 32-digit serial number permanently embedded in your phone's eSIM chip. Its presence confirms the hardware supports eSIM. The number itself is not needed to activate a plan.
Do all iPhone models support eSIM?
iPhone XS and newer support eSIM, with one exception. iPhones sold in mainland China and Hong Kong use dual physical SIM trays instead of eSIM. If you bought your iPhone in those markets, check for an EID by dialling *#06# before purchasing a plan.
Do Samsung phones sold in India support eSIM?
Most do, but not all. Galaxy S20 and newer flagships support eSIM. In the A-series, only the A54 and newer models do. Some A-series variants sold in India lack the eSIM chip entirely, so dial *#06# to confirm before buying.
Can I use an eSIM on a carrier-locked phone?
The phone must be unlocked to add a new eSIM. On iPhone, go to Settings > General > About and check for a 'Carrier Lock' section. On Android, the path varies by brand but is usually in Settings > Connections > SIM Card Manager. If it says locked, contact your carrier.
What happens if I buy a Slashtel eSIM and my phone is not compatible?
If the eSIM has not been installed, you get a full refund on request. If you installed it and it fails, contact us at esim@slashtel.com and we will sort it out. Installed eSIMs that work correctly are final sale.
