Slashtel delivers MTN Nigeria top-ups straight to the number, so you can recharge from any country in minutes. You do not need an account with MTN Nigeria or a Nigerian bank card. The person receiving the top-up does not need to do anything: the airtime or data is added to the balance automatically.
MTN Nigeria top-ups come in two forms: airtime that the recipient can spend on calls, SMS or any MTN service, and data bundles that add a set amount of data for a set number of days. The amount shown at checkout is the amount that lands on the phone, with no operator tax deducted.
Airtime top-ups land as NGN 7166, NGN 14333, NGN 21499, NGN 28665 or NGN 42998. These have no expiry date attached to the top-up itself, so the balance stays on the line until it is used.
Data bundles include 1GB plus 1.5 minutes for 1 day, 7GB for 7 days, 20GB for 7 days, 20GB for 30 days, 65GB for 30 days, 120GB for 30 days, 150GB for 60 days and 480GB for 90 days. Each bundle lands as the full data amount shown, and the validity period starts when the bundle is added to the line.
Nigerian mobile numbers have 10 digits after the country code 234, and the leading zero is dropped in international format. Because people can move networks and keep their number, the prefix alone does not prove a line is on MTN; Slashtel checks the live operator for you.
A number written nationally as 0802 123 4567 becomes +234 802 123 4567 internationally. In the Slashtel form, enter 802 123 4567 with the country code 234 already selected. Do not keep the leading zero, and do not add spaces or dashes.
If you enter a number that does not belong to MTN, the operator detection will not match and the top-up will not go through. Check the first few digits before you pay. Airtel, Glo and 9mobile numbers use different prefixes and are handled as separate operators.
Most failed top-ups are caused by a wrong number, a number that is not active, or a payment that was not completed. If the payment went through but the balance did not change, the top-up is usually reversed automatically, and the amount returns to your payment method.
Check that the number is in service and that it is an MTN line. A number that has been dormant or barred cannot receive a top-up. If the number is correct and active, wait a few minutes: delivery is usually immediate but can take longer when the network is busy.
If the top-up still has not arrived, contact Slashtel support with the number, the plan and the time of payment. Do not send a second top-up to the same number until the first one is confirmed, because both may land and you will have paid twice.
Slashtel takes payment by card, Apple Pay and Google Pay, and the payment is processed before the top-up is sent to the number. The price you see at checkout is the price you pay, and the amount that lands on the phone is shown before you confirm.
Card payments may be checked by your bank, especially for a first purchase or a payment in a different currency. If your bank declines the payment, the top-up is not sent and no balance is added. You can try another card or a mobile wallet.
Keep the receipt from your payment. It shows the number, the plan and the amount, and it is the fastest way to trace a top-up if you need to ask about it later. Slashtel does not store card details beyond what the payment provider needs to process the transaction.
