The amounts are set in the local currency of the line, and some countries also accept a top up in US dollars.

Because the operator is read from the number, the same page works whether the line is in Central America, the Caribbean or the Andean region. You only need the Claro mobile number.

How to send a Claro top-up from abroad

Sending a Claro top up from abroad takes a few minutes and needs nothing more than the mobile number and a payment method. The top up is delivered to the Claro line, not to a voucher or a code you have to pass on. The person receiving it does not need an app or an account.

1. Enter the Claro mobile number with its country code, for example 502 for Guatemala or 57 for Colombia.
2. Check the operator and the country shown, which are detected from the number.
3. Choose the top up amount from the plans listed for that line.
4. Pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.
5. Wait for confirmation that the top up has been delivered to the number.

The whole process is done online, so it works from any country and at any hour. The recipient keeps using the same SIM and the same number.

What arrives on the phone in each country

The top up arrives as balance or as a plan on the Claro line, in the currency of that country. Guatemala and Honduras can receive GTQ or HNL and also USD, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Ecuador receive USD, the Dominican Republic receives DOP, Colombia receives COP and Peru receives PEN. The amount shown is what lands on the line after the operator's tax.

Claro prepaid lines in these countries use the top up for calls, messages and data according to the operator's own rules. The balance sits on the number and is used as the line is used.

Where a plan carries the operator's tax, the figure you see at checkout is the amount that reaches the phone, not a pre-tax figure. That keeps the delivered amount clear before you pay.

Entering the number correctly

The Claro number must be entered with its country code so the operator and the country can be detected. Guatemala uses 502, Honduras 504, El Salvador 503, Nicaragua 505, the Dominican Republic 1, Colombia 57, Peru 51 and Ecuador 593. A number entered without the country code may not be recognised.

Use the mobile number of the Claro line, not a landline and not a number from another operator. The detection step confirms which Claro line the top up is going to.

If the number looks wrong, correct it before paying. A top up sent to a number that was typed incorrectly cannot be pulled back once it has been delivered.

If a top-up does not go through

Most Claro top ups are delivered within minutes. If one does not arrive, the usual causes are a number entered without its country code, a number that is not a Claro prepaid line, or a payment that was not completed. Checking the number and the payment status first solves most cases.

A top up is meant for an active prepaid Claro line. If the line has been suspended or the number belongs to another operator, the top up will not land.

When the payment has gone through and the number is correct, the top up is normally on the line shortly after. Keep the confirmation you receive, since it shows the number and the amount that was sent.
