To top up a Colombian phone from the USA, use an online service that supports Colombian operators. You enter the 10 digit number, choose a credit amount or bundle, pay in US dollars, and the top up is delivered. Prices start at $2.91. The process is quick and you do not need a Colombian bank account.
Colombian mobile numbers have 10 digits, for example 321 1234567. When you send from the USA, you do not add the country code 57 in the number field if the service already asks for Colombia. Just enter the 10 digits. The service handles the rest.
You can repeat the process for different numbers. Keep the receipt in case you need to check the delivery.
You can send top ups to Claro, Movistar, Tigo and Wom in Colombia. Claro and Wom offer airtime top ups, while Claro, Movistar and Tigo also have bundles with data, minutes and social media. Amounts range from small credit to larger data packages, with 33 plans available.
Airtime top ups are available for Claro and Wom. For example, a Wom airtime top up gives 20137 COP and a Claro airtime top up gives 20657 COP. These are useful if your family prefers to choose their own plan or needs credit for calls and messages.
Bundles are available from Claro Colombia Bundles, Movistar Colombia Bundles and Tigo Colombia Data. You can send 300 minutes for 2 days with Claro for 4000 COP, or 2GB plus unlimited social for 7 days for 5000 COP. Movistar has 2GB data plus unlimited minutes for 7 days for 8000 COP. Tigo offers 2GB plus unlimited minutes for 7 days for 10000 COP. Larger bundles include 10GB plus unlimited minutes and SMS for 7 days with Claro for 14000 COP, or 7GB plus unlimited minutes for 30 days with Tigo for 16500 COP.
The prices you see are in US dollars, starting from $2.91. The receive amounts are in Colombian pesos and are shown for information.
Colombian mobile numbers are 10 digits long and start with 3. When you top up from the USA, you enter the number as the recipient uses it, for example 321 1234567. You do not need to drop a zero. The country code is 57, but the service usually adds it automatically.
First, check the number with your family. A wrong digit means the credit goes to someone else. The number should be 10 digits, no more and no less. If they give you a number with 57 in front, remove it unless the form asks for it.
Second, select the operator that matches the number. Claro, Movistar, Tigo and Wom are supported. If you are not sure, ask your family which operator they use. The top up will not work if the operator is wrong.
Third, choose the amount or bundle and pay. After payment, the credit is usually delivered quickly. You can check the status on the confirmation page. Keep the reference number.
Credit gives your family the freedom to buy what they need, while a bundle provides a set amount of data, minutes or social media for a fixed period. Choose credit if they have a preferred plan, or a bundle if they need data for a known number of days.
Airtime top ups are simple. A Claro airtime top up gives 20657 COP and a Wom airtime top up gives 20137 COP. Your family can then use that credit for calls, messages or their own bundle. This is flexible if they know the local offers.
Bundles are good when you want to give a specific benefit. For example, a Claro bundle with 2GB and unlimited social for 7 days costs 5000 COP. A Movistar bundle with 4.5GB for 10 days costs 13000 COP. A Tigo bundle with 7GB and unlimited minutes for 30 days costs 16500 COP. These are useful for students or family members who use data for messaging and social media.
Consider how long the bundle lasts. Some last 2 days, others 7, 8, 10 or 30 days. Pick one that matches your family's usage. If they run out, you can send another top up.
Use an online top up service that supports Claro Colombia. Enter the 10 digit Colombian number, choose a Claro airtime top up or a Claro bundle, pay in US dollars, and the credit is delivered. Prices start at $2.91.
