Questions
Can I buy a Vi roaming pack from Kuwait with a foreign card?
Yes. Vi's own app and site are built around Indian cards, UPI and Indian net banking, which is why cards issued in Kuwait often fail there. Here you pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay in your own currency and the pack is applied to your Indian number in about a minute, with an email receipt carrying the operator's transaction ID.
What does a Vi international roaming pack do for me abroad?
It lets your Indian SIM register on a partner network in Kuwait, so the number keeps receiving calls and SMS: bank and UPI one-time passwords, Aadhaar and government OTPs, WhatsApp verification codes and calls from family. Packs also include some minutes and data; the exact allowance, validity and covered countries are set by Vi and shown on its site.
Which Vi roaming packs can I buy here?
Right now: International Roaming 1199 INR (INR 1199, $26.87). Enter your number above to confirm which apply to your line.
Does the pack keep my Indian number from being deactivated?
Buying a pack is a paid recharge, so it counts as activity on the line. Under TRAI's Telecom Consumers Protection (Sixth Amendment) Regulations, 2013, which bind Vi and every Indian operator, a prepaid connection cannot be deactivated for any period of non-usage shorter than 90 days, is not deactivated while the balance is ₹20 or more, and after deactivation the same number can be reactivated within 15 days. A recharge or an international roaming pack bought while abroad counts as activity and keeps the line registered.
I only want data abroad, not my Indian number. What then?
A travel eSIM is far cheaper per GB than a roaming pack. See our Vi roaming vs eSIM comparison and keep the Indian SIM in the second slot with a small recharge for OTPs.
Do I need the SIM in my phone when I buy?
No. The pack is applied to the number on the operator's side. To use it you need the SIM in a phone with international roaming switched on.
