Airtel Nigeria top-ups are bought online by entering the Nigerian number, choosing an airtime or data plan and paying by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. The operator is detected from the number, and the top-up is delivered to the phone in minutes. Prices start from $5.47.
Airtel is one of the main Nigerian networks, alongside MTN, Glo and 9mobile. If you live abroad and want to keep a Nigerian line active, or send credit to a family member's phone, a direct top-up avoids asking someone locally to buy a voucher.
Delivery is usually within minutes. Keep the confirmation in case you need to check the balance with the person using the line.
Two kinds of top-up are available. Airtime arrives as call credit with no expiry attached to the purchase. Data plans arrive as a bundle with a set validity, from a 1.5GB Weekly Plan valid for 7 days up to a 400GB Data (365 Days) plan valid for a full year.
Data options include the 3GB Data and 10GB Monthly Plan, both valid for 30 days, the 13 GB Weekly Plan valid for 7 days, and larger bundles such as 25 GB Data, 60GB Data, 150GB Data (30 Days) and 400GB Data (365 Days). The amount shown for each plan is what lands on the phone after any operator tax, so there is no separate deduction to work out.
Airtime top-ups are available in several amounts, from 7177 NGN up to 71773 NGN. Airtime suits a line used mainly for calls and texts, while a data plan suits a phone used for browsing, messaging apps and video.
Nigerian numbers use the dial code 234 and are 10 digits long after the leading zero is dropped. The national format 0802 123 4567 becomes +234 802 123 4567. Entering the number in this format lets the operator be detected automatically.
The most common mistake is leaving the leading zero in place, which produces a number the network cannot match. Write the number without the zero, directly after 234.
If you are topping up a family member's line, ask them to confirm the number digit by digit before you pay. A top-up sent to a wrong but valid number cannot be redirected once it has been delivered.
Most failed top-ups are caused by a number entered in the wrong format or a payment that was not completed. Check the number first, then the payment method, before trying again.
If the payment was taken but the balance has not changed, allow a short period for the network to process it, then check the balance again. Keep the confirmation details, including the number, plan and time of purchase.
If the number belongs to someone else, ask them to check their balance directly. A data plan can take a little longer to appear than an airtime top-up.
Payment is made by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay at the point of purchase. The operator is detected from the number you enter, so the plan list matches the line you are topping up.
Use a payment method in your own name and keep the confirmation for your records. Because the top-up is delivered directly to the Nigerian number, there is no voucher code to forward and nothing for the recipient to redeem.
Before paying, read the plan label and validity so you know what will land and how long it lasts. For a line that needs to stay active over a long period, the 400GB Data (365 Days) plan covers a full year, while shorter plans suit occasional use.

Enter the Airtel number in international format, check that the operator is detected as Airtel, choose an airtime top-up or a data plan, then pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. The top-up is delivered to the Nigerian number in minutes, with prices from $5.47.
Yes. You enter the Nigerian number, pay with a UK card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, and the top-up is sent to the phone. Airtel numbers use the dial code 234 and 10 digits, so 0802 123 4567 is entered as +234 802 123 4567.
Options include the 1.5GB Weekly Plan valid for 7 days, the 3GB Data and 10GB Monthly Plan valid for 30 days, the 13 GB Weekly Plan valid for 7 days, and larger bundles such as 25 GB Data, 60GB Data, 150GB Data (30 Days) and 400GB Data (365 Days).
Delivery is usually within minutes of payment. Airtime normally appears quickly, while a data bundle can take slightly longer to register on the line. If nothing arrives, check the number format first, since a leading zero left in place will stop the top-up.
No. Nigerian numbers drop the leading zero in international format. The national number 0802 123 4567 becomes +234 802 123 4567, using the dial code 234 followed by 10 digits. Entering it this way lets the operator be detected automatically.
Dial *310# for airtime and *323# for data balance and expiry.
Airtel says a prepaid line stays active and airtime never expires as long as you make a call, send an SMS or recharge at least once every 90 days.
Dial 300 from the Airtel line, or 0802 150 0300 from any other network, 24 hours a day.
Enter it with the country code +234. A number written locally as 0802 123 4567 becomes +234 802 123 4567, so drop the leading 0 after the country code. Nigerian mobile numbers have 10 digits after the country code. The example is a format guide, not a real number.
Enter the number with the country code, pick a plan and pay by card. The operator is detected automatically and the credit goes straight to the phone. You do not need an account or a bank account in Nigeria.
Plans currently start from $5.47 and go up to $120.03, including our service fee. The exact price is shown before you pay, with no extra charges at checkout.
