You can top up a giffgaff number online by entering the UK mobile number, choosing a plan or credit amount and paying by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. giffgaff is a prepaid network, so the top-up adds credit or a plan to an existing pay as you go line. Prices start.
A giffgaff top up is useful whether you are in the UK topping up your own line, a new arrival paying with a card from another country, or someone abroad topping up family in the UK. The number is detected from the digits you enter, so you do not need to select the network yourself.
The process takes a few minutes. You enter the giffgaff number, the site detects the operator, you choose a plan or credit amount and pay. The top-up is delivered to the number, not to an app or account, so the person using the phone does not need to do anything.
If you are topping up someone else's line, you only need their number. They do not need to share a password or log in to anything.
giffgaff is a prepaid network. A top-up adds credit or a plan to an existing pay as you go line. It does not work on contract or pay monthly lines. The amount shown is what lands on the phone after any operator tax, so the balance increases by the amount you see at checkout.
Plans differ by what the line needs. Some people top up with credit so the balance can be used for whatever the line needs. Others choose a plan that includes an allowance. The options appear once the number is entered, because they depend on the line.
If you are paying from outside the UK, the top-up still lands on the UK number. The person using the phone keeps their UK number for calls and texts, and the top-up keeps that line active.
UK mobile numbers have 10 digits after the leading zero. The national format is 07400 123456. The international format is +44 7400 123456, where the leading zero is dropped. Both formats work, but the digits must match the line you want to top up.
If you are used to writing the number with a leading zero, you can enter it that way. If you are outside the UK, the international format is often easier because it includes the country code 44. The important part is the 10 digits that identify the line.
Check the number before you pay. A top-up sent to the wrong number cannot be reversed. If you are topping up a family member's line, ask them to confirm the number in writing.
Most top-ups are delivered in minutes. If the balance has not changed, check the number first. A single wrong digit sends the top-up to a different line. If the number is correct, the line may be inactive or the plan may not be available for that line.
A giffgaff line that has been inactive for a long time may not accept a top-up until it is reactivated. If the number was recently moved to giffgaff, the line may need a moment before it can receive credit.
If the payment was declined, the top-up will not be sent. You can try again with a different payment method. If the payment went through but the balance has not changed after a short wait, contact support with the number and the time of the order.
Payment is by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. The price includes a service fee shown before payment, so the amount you see at checkout is the amount you pay. No account is needed on the phone, and the person receiving the top-up does not need to share any login details.
Use a payment method in your own name. If you are paying from another country, a card that works for international payments is the simplest option. Apple Pay and Google Pay work the same way as a card.
Keep the confirmation. It shows the number, the amount and the time of the order. If anything needs to be checked later, that confirmation is the reference.

Credit pays for services outside your plan, and for standard calls, texts and data if your plan expires or you are not on a plan.
giffgaff deactivates a SIM that has not been used for 6 months. A call, text or MMS to another number, mobile data use, or buying credit or a plan keeps it active; free calls (emergency, Member Services, 0800) do not count. giffgaff emails a month before and about 5 days before. After deactivation a PAC can be requested for 30 days, then the number is recycled.
Enter it with the country code +44. A number written locally as 07400 123456 becomes +44 7400 123456, so drop the leading 0 after the country code. UK mobile numbers have 10 digits after the country code. The example is a format guide, not a real number.
