Getting online in Sydney

  • Install the eSIM on Wi-Fi before you fly, so it is ready when you land.
  • On landing, turn on data roaming for the eSIM so it can connect.
  • Keep your home SIM in the phone for calls, texts and one-time passcodes.

Other options

Other eSIMs, such as Airalo and Holafly, also cover Australia, and you can buy a local SIM at the airport with your passport. We publish every seller's price for the same data side by side: compare Australia eSIM prices.

Questions, answered

Does the eSIM work in Sydney?

Yes. It runs on mobile networks in Australia (Optus or Telstra), so it works in Sydney and across the rest of Australia on the same plan.

Can I keep my WhatsApp number?

Yes. WhatsApp stays linked to your own number. Keep your usual SIM in the phone and WhatsApp works over the eSIM's data as normal, including calls and messages.

Will bank OTP texts still reach me?

Texts go to your usual SIM, not the eSIM. Leave that SIM switched on, with data roaming off, and one-time codes still arrive in Sydney as long as your home network has a roaming partner there. Your home network may charge for texts received abroad.

Can I top up?

Yes. Add data to the same eSIM online at slashtel.com/topup with your order reference. There is no new QR code to scan.

Can I make calls?

Not as phone calls: the eSIM is data only and has no phone number. Calls over WhatsApp, FaceTime, Teams or similar apps work on its data.

When does it start?

Your plan's days start when the eSIM first connects to a network in Australia, not when you buy or install it. You can install it days before you fly.
