The country behind +994
The +994 country code belongs to Azerbaijan, the only country on this page. Its official name is the Republic of Azerbaijan and its ISO code is AZ. The country sits in Western Asia and its capital is Baku. Azerbaijani and Russian are the languages used in the country, and the currency is the Azerbaijani manat. People from Azerbaijan are called Azerbaijani.
Local time in Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan uses a single time zone, Asia/Baku, at UTC+04:00. Calls to a +994 number follow the same clock across the country, with Baku as the reference point for local time.
What a +994 number looks like
Azerbaijani mobile numbers carry the country code 994. The international format for a number in Azerbaijan is written as +994 40 123 45 67. The 40 in that example is the leading part of the national number shown after the country code. When you dial or message a +994 number from outside Azerbaijan, the country code comes first, followed by the rest of the number in the same layout as the example.
Calling and messaging over the internet
You can call or message a +994 number over the internet using a data connection, which avoids paying for a traditional international call route. The call or message travels over your data connection rather than the standard telephone network, so you only need a working internet link on your device. This applies to any Azerbaijani number you reach with the +994 code.
If the person you are contacting uses a prepaid Azerbaijani mobile, you can top up a Azerbaijan number through Slashtel. Slashtel sends prepaid mobile top-ups to these Azerbaijan operators: Azercell, Bakcell and Nar. A top-up adds credit to the prepaid balance of the number on one of these networks, so the person can keep using their mobile for calls and messages.
Azerbaijan keeps one time zone at UTC+04:00, uses the Azerbaijani manat as its currency, and lists Azerbaijani and Russian among its languages. Baku is the capital and the reference city for Asia/Baku time. Numbers reached with +994 follow the format shown above, and internet calling or messaging plus a Slashtel top-up covers both reaching and supporting an Azerbaijani mobile user.
