What a +91 mobile number looks like

A number written in international form for India follows this pattern: +91 81234 56789. The +91 prefix marks the country, and the remaining digits are the local mobile number. Use the same layout when you store a contact or pass a number on to someone else.

Calling and messaging India over the internet

You can call or message a +91 number over the internet using a data connection. The call or message travels over your data link rather than a traditional voice route, which keeps the cost of reaching Indian numbers down. This works from a phone, tablet or computer with a stable data connection, and the person you contact does not need a special app on the Indian side beyond receiving the call or message on their +91 number.

Slashtel sends prepaid mobile top-ups to these India operators: Airtel, Jio, Vi and BSNL. If you want to add credit for someone in India, you can top up a India number through the recharge page. Choose the operator, enter the +91 number in the format shown above, and send the top-up. The credit then sits on the Indian prepaid account for the recipient to use.

India keeps one time zone, Asia/Kolkata at UTC+05:30, so a +91 number you call or message is always on that clock. The capital, New Delhi, falls within it, as does the rest of the country. Keep the number in its international form with the +91 prefix so it stays usable from outside India, and check the operator name against the four listed above before sending a top-up.
