+20 country code: Egypt

The +20 code and where it is used

The +20 country code belongs to Egypt, officially the Arab Republic of Egypt, ISO code EG. Egypt is the only country on this page that uses +20. It sits in Northern Africa, a subregion of Africa, and its capital is Cairo. Arabic is the language of the country, and the currency is the Egyptian pound. The demonym for people and things from Egypt is Egyptian.

Local time and number format

Egypt uses one time zone, Africa/Cairo, at UTC+02:00. A mobile number with the +20 code follows the international example format +20 10 01234567. The +20 prefix is the country code, and the digits after it identify the individual mobile line.

Calling and messaging over the internet

A +20 number can be reached over the internet with a data connection, which keeps the cost of calling or messaging Egypt low. A dialler or messaging app on a phone, tablet or computer connects to the Egyptian number through that data connection rather than a standard voice line. The same connection supports both voice calls and text messages to +20 numbers. This works wherever the caller is located, provided the data connection is stable.

Topping up Egyptian mobiles

Slashtel sends prepaid mobile top-ups to operators in Egypt: Vodafone, Orange, Etisalat and WE. You can top up a Egypt number through the recharge page, and the credit goes to the prepaid balance of the line on the chosen operator. This suits Egyptian subscribers on any of the four networks listed, whether the line is used inside Egypt or by someone abroad who keeps an Egyptian number active. The recipient needs a prepaid line with the selected operator, and the top-up is applied to that line.

Egyptian numbers carry the +20 code, and the mobile example +20 10 01234567 shows the international layout. Arabic is the main language, the Egyptian pound is the currency, and Cairo is the capital. Local time follows Africa/Cairo at UTC+02:00. Calls and messages to +20 numbers can run over an internet data connection, and prepaid top-ups reach Vodafone, Orange, Etisalat and WE lines.
