Free tools / Mobile network checker

Which network is this number on?

Type a mobile number to see its network: Jio, Airtel, Vi or BSNL in India, MTN, Airtel or Glo in Nigeria, Jazz, Zong or Ufone in Pakistan, and more across 25 countries.

Enter the number

Paste a number starting with + and the country is read from it. The number is not stored.

How the check works

Every mobile network is given blocks of numbers to hand out. The first few digits after the country code show which block a number comes from, and so which network issued it. The checker compares your number with 4,835 of these blocks across 25 countries, taken from the open numbering data that phones and apps use to read numbers.

The match happens on our server against a fixed list. Nothing is sent to the number, no network is contacted and the number is not kept.

When the answer can differ

In most countries people can move their number to another network and keep the same digits. The checker then shows the network the number started on, not the one it uses today. If you are sending credit, the safest check is to ask the person. Our top-up page looks the number up again and lets you change the network before you pay.

Some networks have merged or changed name. The result uses today's name and tells you the former one, for example a range first issued to Idea shows as Vi.

Questions

How do I check if a number is Jio, Airtel, Vi or BSNL?

Choose India, type the 10 digit mobile number and press Check network. The checker matches the first digits against 3,253 Indian number ranges and shows the network each one was issued to: Vi, Airtel, Jio, BSNL or MTNL.

Why does it show a network the person has left?

Number ranges belong to the network that first issued them. When someone moves their number to another network, the digits stay the same, so the checker shows where the number started. The person can confirm their current network, and on our top-up page you can change the network before you pay.

Why does an Indian number show Vi when it was Idea or Vodafone?

Idea and Vodafone merged and now trade as Vi, so ranges issued to either show as Vi. In the same way, ranges first issued to Telenor (Uninor) and Tata Docomo show as Airtel, which took over both. Aircel and S TEL have closed, so those numbers are now on other networks.

Is the check free, and is the number saved?

Yes, it is free with no sign-up and no limit. The number is matched against a list of ranges and is not stored, logged or shared, and no message or call is sent to it.

Can I top up the number after checking it?

Yes. For a mobile number in a country we serve, the result has a Send a top-up button that opens the top-up page with the number already filled in. You see the plans and the full price before you pay.
