Getting from arrivals to the city
Each terminal has its own sheltered taxi rank at the front, with supervisors on hand during peak times. A taxi to the Sydney CBD takes about 20 minutes and costs about $45 to $55 one way. Driving takes about 25 minutes in light traffic. The Airport Link train runs from the city to the airport in about 13 minutes, with trains approximately every 10 minutes.
Taxi fares and the fixed fare trial
From 3 November 2025, one-way trips from a Sydney Airport taxi rank to a designated Sydney CBD area are a fixed fare: $60 for a standard taxi, including wheelchair accessible services, and $80 for a maxi-taxi if there are five or more passengers or if you request one. Fixed fares include all taxes, fees, levies and road tolls, though a credit card or EFTPOS surcharge or a cleaning fee may still apply. Taxis from the airport ranks must use their meter, and the total must include the Airport toll.
Practical tips for your arrival
You can book a premium taxi inside T1 International Arrivals at the WeKnow desk or at the digital kiosks near Carousel 7 at baggage reclaim. Have your payment method ready before you join the rank. Once you land, an eSIM can have your data working before you reach the taxi queue, so maps and messages are ready to go.
Skip the airport Wi-Fi
Airport Wi-Fi usually means a sign-up page, an email address and a connection that stops at the terminal doors. A data eSIM keeps you online at the gate, in the taxi and at the hotel, and your own number stays on for calls and bank codes.
